Hamilton
The entrance to Black Watch Pass, which was cut through the rock during the 1930s to provide a level route to the North Shore Road for the only road transport of the time, horses and carriages. The name commemorates a well at the northen end of the Pass that was dug by Black Watch soldiers during the drought of 1849.
